چکیده

One of the safety-critical components ballasted track systems is railway sleepers whose main functions are to (i) transfer vertical load, (ii) maintain rail gauge, and (iii) restrain longitudinal movement. Railway can be manufactured using timber, concrete, steel, composite, any other engineered materials. Prestressed concrete most commonly used type worldwide because their superior value-for-money performance. In practice, experience thousands cycles aggressive wheel–rail dynamic loads wear deterioration observed over service life. Not only does affect quality geometries, but it also undermines structural integrity structures. The abrasion directly decrease capacity sleepers, resulting in reduction this paper, emphasis placed on assessment fatigue life prestressed with imperfect geometry. This study world’s first establish a new simulation considering accumulative non-constant amplitudes, which has been validated full-scale experimental results empirical analyses. Parametric studies have conducted obtain insights into performance worn sleepers. findings will improve sleeper maintenance inspection criteria, provide guideline track-condition monitoring networks.

Remaining Fatigue Life Predictions Considering Load and Model Parameters Uncertainty

Fatigue-driven damage propagation is one of the most unpredictable failure mechanisms for a large variety of mechanical and structural systems subjected to cyclic and/or random operational loads during their service life. Therefore, monitoring the critical components of these systems, assessing their structural integrity, recursively predicting their remaining fatigue life (RFL), and providing ...

Investigation on simulation of train loading on prestressed concrete sleepers

Railway concrete sleepers have been developed and utilized in railway industry for over 50 years. Cyclic loading because of vibration on sleepers due to the train loading and the velocity of train itself and also a small percentage of bad wheels, can eventually lead to a crack network and failure of component. The objective of this study is to investigate the load carrying capacity of the selec...
